Avocado + Greens Smoothie
Smoothies are one of the most popular ways to consume avocados. Many people don't know this, but avocados make a good dairy substitute because of their creamy, fatty texture. So you can make this smoothie with cow's milk or a nut milk, but it will still be nice and creamy because you've added the avocado! This smoothie also has so many additional fruits and vegetables, it's truly a full meal, it has everything you need.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Meal replacement – With your protein add in, this smoothie has everything you need for a meal - protein, fiber, carbs, healthy fats.
For the whole family – A smoothie is a great way to get in some extra fruits and veggies, especially for the kids, and they love the taste of smoothies.
Ingredients
Avocado – You can buy avocados fresh from our California grove when in season (approx. March-August). Visit our shop page, but any avocados will do!
Banana – A great binder for any smoothie and a natural sweetener. For best taste, add an older banana, bonus if it's from the freezer for a chilled smoothie.
Dates – Another great natural sweetener. With banana and dates, no need for sugar, or even honey or maple syrup, in this smoothie.
Cucumber - Great for added hydration - did you know that cucumbers are about 96% water?
Apple - You know the sayin - an apple a day keeps the doctor away! Any type of apple will do, but do a granny smith if you want to keep the whole smoothie on it's green theme!
Spinach - Here come your vitamins and minerals - iron, folate, potasium, vitamins A, C, K1, it's so all-around good for you.
Celery - 96% water just like the cucumber, and also with antioxidants, celery is another powerhouse.
Vanilla protein powder - You can use any vanilla protein powder you like, but the cleanest brand I'e found (that is dairy-free if you need that) is Equip Prime Protein.
Milk - Any type of mimlk will do, whether you consumer dairy or not. The bonus here is, if you don't consume dairy, you can still have that creamy texture because of the avocado.

How to Make an Avocado & Greens Smoothie
Step 1: Collect all of your produce and wash it! I did cut my apple off the core, and of course cut and scoop out the avocado, but otherwise I throw everything in whole.
Step 2: Throw all ingredients in a blender of your choice. If it has a smoothie setting, you can use that, otherwise blend until smooth.
Step 3: I always do a taste test to see if I need to add anything, usually a few icea cubes for texture, maybe a little more milk. Then, enjoy!
Tips for Success
- Add the milk first to prevent other items from sticking
- Don't be afraid to over blend! The dates especially can take a bit of time to blend up really well.
Recipe FAQs
Is this a meal-replacement smoothie? Yes! With the added protein, you'll be full until the next meal.
Can I save the leftovers? Smoothies are best right after they are made, but they will save for 24 hours, but no longer. Best to consume any leftovers before the end of the day.
